The name of the course we are going to do this year is named Technical English.
This course is taking part at San Jose Maristak, in Durango, Bizkaia and it's a higher grade course being taught in 2ºASIR.
To be able to follow the Technical English course, you’ve got to reach 2ºASIR and once you are in the grade, one of the subjects will be English. Also you should have a decent level in English to be able to follow the course and to pass it, otherwise it will be difficult to progress.
In this course we are going to focus mainly in 4 subjects, which are listening, writing, speaking and reading.
The objectives of the course are to improve our level of English. More precisely, we have to learn to understand information in English related to our professional sector, in our case computing. We have also to learn how to correctly fill documents related to computing, and also how to properly communicate with other professionals, knowing the protocols or costumes of different countries.
Some of the contents that we are going to study are for example how to understand and follow up the procedures dictated by an enterprise, knowing the technical expressions of words of the computing world or to take note of how important is to understand globally a message, without needing to understand each word.
Regarding the teaching methodology, the fundamental objective is to develop the 4 basic language skills: listening, writing, speaking and reading. For that reason, in the class we are always to use English to improve in all of these areas. Group work is also very important to motivate all the students to participate in the class. Finally, we are going to use very different materials (documents, videos, music, etc) related to professional aspects, because each student learns at his own pace and likes some things and dislikes others, so the materials have to be the most diverse as possible so that all students feel comfortable at the course.
During the course, we are going to be evaluated according to our team work, self-learning, dominion of the language and the planning and executions of the tasks assigned to us. Our behaviour is also going to be evaluated, but it is not as important as the other aspects in our final mark.
Some activities that we are going to do is to elaborate a CV, create a personal presentation for a job interview and to study the costumes and values of a foreign country and compare them with the ones of our country.
For our blog we will need some materials and resources to create it. For example a computer, information from internet….
This course it's not very complicated, so anybody that has at least the B1 level (which you can reach it passing the PET exam) will be able to take this course.
In our personal opinion we hope we will gain a better understanding of english and a broad knowledge related to computing. In addition we hope to be able to express ourselves easier while speaking english.
